Grayson Perry (b. 1960)

Grayson Perry (b. 1960) has long identified himself as ‘a transvestite potter from Essex’. Since he was awarded the Turner Prize in 2003, Perry has developed a unique position in British public life. He is the only artist ever to deliver the Reith Lectures, which he did in 2013, and he has made several critically acclaimed television series for Channel 4, including All in the Best Possible Taste (2013), many of which address the intersection between art and social class. A knighthood was conferred upon him in 2023, he was elected as a Royal Academician in 2011, and he served two terms as a trustee of the British Museum from 2015. Significant museum exhibitions of his work have been held in the UK, Northern Europe, Australia and Japan. Examples of his work are owned by museums including the British Museum, London; Tate, London; Bonnefanten Museum, Maastricht; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; the Victoria & Albert Museum, London; and Yale Center for British Art, New Haven.
