She writes: "Newbolt’s work is an investigation into the character of his subject through the terrific personality of his delicious layers of paint", and reminds the reader of how apposite the term 'baroque' is for describing Newbolt's work, its meaning coming from 'barroco,' the Portugese word for 'misshapen pearl."
