Summary
Frieze New York , Paul Nash

Piano Nobile presented a focused display of work by the leading British modernist, Paul Nash, at Frieze New York in 2019. Alongside Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson, Nash led British culture into a new era of experimentation and artistic ingenuity. This display introduced oil paintings, prints and photographs from each important phase of Nash's career. There were also be a set of twenty-five Paul Nash photographs, individually framed.

Nash went to New York in 1931, taking inspiration during the sea crossing from the open ocean and the formal arrangement of rigging on the ship’s deck. The display included photographs such as Atlantic Voyage, taken during the crossing. It was the first dedicated display of Nash's work in New York.

The display was accompanied by a new and fully-illustrated publication, Paul Nash: Another Life, Another World. The catalogue’s author is David Boyd Haycock, the leading Nash specialist and author of the best-selling book, A Crisis of Brilliance (2009). The publication provides an insightful and lyrical overview of Nash’s career.
