Drawn to Paper: Giacometti to Hockney

16 March - 12 May 2023
Summary

Drawn to Paper: Giacometti to Hockney continues Piano Nobile’s series of exhibitions dedicated to outstanding works on paper. The selection on display contains work by European artists such as Pierre Bonnard and Alberto Giacometti, modern British artists including David Bomberg, Paul Nash and Henry Moore, and post-war British figurative artists David Hockney, Frank Auerbach and Lucian Freud. The display will further include portrait drawings by R.B. Kitaj, whose estate is represented by Piano Nobile.

The exhibition is founded on a blank sheet of paper, which for so long has been the engine room of Western art. Onto this support, the artists selected here used a wide variety of media including oil paint, charcoal, pen and ink, watercolour, pastel, gouache, wax crayon and graphite, often making personally distinctive combinations therewith.
