We are grateful to Rebecca John for identifying the sitter as Edith Lees known as Lyndra, the wife of the artist Derwent Lees and sometime model of Augustus John’s. She sat for John in a series of drawings in 1910, the probable date of the present work (see National Museums and Galleries of Wales Themes and Variations-The Drawings of Augustus John 1996 pp.60-61). Lyndra (nee Edith Harriet Price) married Lees in 1913. She died in 1984.
