Peter Doig (b. 1959)
Peter Doig was born in Edinburgh and spent periods of his childhood in Trinidad and Canada. He studied art in London and won early recognition with paintings inspired variously by film stills and the Canadian landscape tradition. He was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1994 and his first retrospective, which toured Kiel, Nuremberg and London, was held a few years later in 1998. He relocated to Trinidad in 2002, but recently returned to live in London in 2021. He is widely recognised as one of the most original painters of his generation.
