This catalogue, published alongside an exhibition at the Ipswich Borough Council Museums and Galleries, and then at Piano Nobile, encompasses works from throughout Russell Sidney Reeve's career. Part of the traditionalist school of British modernism, he was called the best draughtsman since Augustus John by Henry Tonks, the infamous Slade School tutor. Fully illustrated in colour, this catalogue contains examples of genres including nudes, cityscapes, still-lifes, farm scenes and wonderfully humorous portraits in various media including watercolour, crayon, etchings and oils amongst others. The catalogue is introduced by Sir Eduardo Paolozzi, reflecting on the disappearance of genre painting and the value of this exhibition and catalogue as a testament to one of the last great masters of genre works.
